Aug 2, 2014 – We’re celebrating peaches! And pies! It’s the annual PEACH PIE CONTEST! The gold medal is on the line in four categories. Who will win? Look for the peach pie tent. Judging begins at 10am. This is our fourth annual contest and if you’ve never watched one – come! It’s a treat for all the senses. Among other things, pies compete for Best Presentation and there are always some memorable works of pie art.

What’s in season: Look for fresh peaches galore from our orchard participants. They will have white and yellow, even the “donut” variety around. Nectarines belong to the same species as peaches so don’t forget to try them, too! Eckert Farms says, “Our corn crop is thriving and we will be bringing yet another wagon full of our white sweet corn as well as potatoes, red haven peaches, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant as well as blueberries and our jams, sauces and salad dressings.”
Viereck Farms will have spaghetti squash this week to go along with a large quantity of heirloom tomatoes, field grown red tomatoes, grape and cherry tomatoes, hot and bell peppers, assorted eggplants, string beans, Asian long beans, melons and more.
DanLynn Organic Farms will have organic sugar baby watermelons corn, chiogga and red beets, green cabbage, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, English cucumbers, Russian and French fingerling potatoes, green and yellow bell peppers, sweet mini frying peppers, white and yellow onions, okra, golden nugget cherry tomatoes, Washington cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, slicing tomatoes and heirloom tomatoes.
Hillacres Pride has on special, beef chipsteak- great for cheese steaks! They are now accepting orders for pork sampler packs as well.
The Treehouse Coffee Shop is baking up muffins with Jersey Fresh peaches and blueberries this weekend. Also on theme – a berry-peachy infusion lemonade sweetened with local honey.
