Recipe for July 4, 2009: Chocolate Grilled Cheese Sandwiches Recipe courtesy the Pop Shop, a market sponsor 4 slices chocolate pound cake 2 tablespoons preserves 4 tablespoons cream cheese icing* Softened butter Handful of blueberries or sliced strawberries Confectioners' sugar for garnish 1. Lay bread or cake slices on a work surface. Brush 2 slices with the preserves. Brush the other two slices with cream cheese icing. Sprinkle blueberries onto cream cheese icing. Combine to make two sandwiches. Brush softened butter on both sides of each sandwich. 2. Using a nonstick skillet or griddle, grill sandwiches over medium-low heat until cheese is slightly warmed and melted and cake is crisped. 3. Dust sandwiches with confectioners' sugar, slice into halves and serve warm.
