July 4, 2009: INDEPENDENCE DAY YES... We will be open on July 4th... What's in season? CORN IS HERE. Viereck Farms had some last week, and Eckert's Farm, "the corn truck at the end" is scheduled to show. Your emailer took a vacation during the usual weekly email composing time, so let's reiterate stuff we saw last week: Blueberries, black and red raspberries, cherries, string beans, yellow squash, zucchini, new potatoes, scallions, turnips, cukes, pickling kirbys, tomatoes (still Jersey hothouse), cabbage, broccoli, 3 kinds of cauliflower (white, yellow, and purple), onions, 4 kinds of mushrooms, peas, lettuces, basil, parsley, cilantro, dill, chards, escarole, beets, and more... Musical Guest: Dave Kelly. He was rained out on that wet Saturday two weeks ago, so he's back again this weekend. Music starts at 9am and is weather permitting. Bring a portable chair for guaranteed seating. Recipes: Click here to view and print: Chocolate "dessert grilled cheese" sandwiches as featured in last week's Pop Shop cooking demo. Perennial
