The trouble with weather forecasting is that it's right too often
June 5, 2010: Weather forecast for Market hours: In the 70s, a chance of precipitation. What's in season? Strawberries, get ready to pass the fruit baton—Fruitwood Farms reports they will be bringing the first cherries of the season this Saturday. Turnips are IN and A.T. Buzby Farm lets you pick out 3 turnips for a dollar. Greens included! Mash 'em into potatoes as a nutritious boost for picky eaters. Zucchini are more numerous now. So... Pineapple Zucchini Bread will be offerred at Great Harvest's table baked with market fresh zucchini and a touch of pineapple. Great Harvest also has Breakfast Blast, a high fiber whole wheat cinnamon raisin bread. Patrick the Baker says "stop by for a free slice—and a Sesame & Sunflower Seed Crunch sample—it has sold out early every week." Hillacres Pride says their ground beef shows you the biggest difference between small-farm pasture-raised meats vs. factory beef. Every week you can taste the difference with a 3-pack (3 lbs.!) for $12.50. This week, eye roasts are on special too for $7.00/lb. Always Seeking New Volunteers Looking for a relaxing way to make a difference? The Market volunteer group, Friends of the Farmers Market (FOFM), would love to know if you can spare a few hours to hang out in the info tent to sell gift certificates, give out free stuff, dispense useful information, and, very likely, make some new friends. Interested potential helpers can contact Anne Carroll at anne_carroll@comcast.net. Thank yooo!
Congratulations to our second winner, Jamie L., who won a $20 gift certificate to Moore Brothers Wine Company and a $5 Market gift certificate. Stay tuned for a Father's Day drawing, coming up in future weeks. You do not need to be a father to win. Musical Guest: No relation. Do thank them for coming to play on short notice. Recipes: Click here to view and print: Poor Man's Crabcakes. (Zucchini Patties.) This recipe was featured in a past season and has been requested to share again! We've also thrown in the other two recipes that were featured with it: Zucchini Bars and Sauteéd Zukes with Herbs. Perennial Market News Produce on Wednesday . Pre-order Hillacres Pride meats .
