May 10, 2008: MOTHERS' DAY WEEKEND Weather forecast for Market hours: Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 70s. What's in season: ASPARAGUS. And much of the same green-heavy selection as last week. Lettuces, herbs, and cooking greens. Tender, yummy beets. The tomatoes you spot are hothouse Jersey. We're still big on gardening. Harry Gamble of Holly Acres reports that Hellebores are hiding in his Holly Acres' display (on the PATCO side, next to Great Harvest). A.K.A. "Lenten Rose," these bloomed well before opening day and are prized by gardeners in the know. DanLynn Farms wants to tell you all about Chicks' Mix, the organic fertilizer they use. Check it out in their tent. Schober Orchards says they are dressing up their fruit butters and salsas in baskets, and is offering free gift wrapping for Mothers' Day gifts. Sunday is Mother's Day: Lots of good stuff here to thank Mom for all the love she gives you! Gift certificates available at the information tent near the live music. PHOTO OF THE WEEK:
Our bustling information tent, staffed by cheerful Friends of the Farmers' Market volunteers, collects non-perishable donations of food for St. Paul's Pantry each week. If you have items to give, it is much appreciated! The pantry is a food source for local people in need. FAQ: Where is Fruitwood? FAQ: How can I get a Market car magnet? Recipes: Our
