ABOUT THE COLLINGSWOOD FARMERS' MARKET
Nine
growing seasons ago, Collingswood resident Pam Ciervo began the
Collingswood Farmers' Market as a project of the civic group Proud
Neighbors of Collingswood. It aimed to bring locally farmed products
to Collingswood and its surrounding communities.
It has grown steadily over the years in size and popularity and
is now a project of the Borough of Collingswood. Now, going to the
Market is considered by many to be their "Saturday morning
ritual."
Charles M. Kuperus,
New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture, has called us "one of
the finest markets in the State." We were recently honored
as "Best Farm Stand" in NJ Monthly Magazine's Best of
Jersey issue with the flattering comment, "authentic rural
feel and hustle-bustle."
The Collingswood Farmers'
Market's primary focus has always been on its farmers. We are one
of a growing number of Markets throughout the state that make an
effort to emphasize local growers. Special thanks go out to everyone
involved, including market shoppers.
Direct interaction between
local growers and consumers is rare these days—what happens
every Saturday at the market is truly special. Any
comments that may help us continue to grow? Just

Nine
years, still growing.
Now in our ninth season, we welcome over 20 farmer/grower-related
participants per season, and many other vendors as well. The Market
has become an established part of the social fabric of the community.
People come to walk, meet their neighbors, and socialize while they
shop for their weekly produce and more.
The sooner you can get produce after it's harvested, the
better its freshness, nutrition and flavor. Because of
the superior quality of the produce and the wonderful Market atmosphere,
it isn't necessary to appeal to the issues of local farming to attract
crowds of shoppers. One might overlook that the successful weekly
Market is now an important link in the local food chain. By providing
a venue for selling directly to the consumer, the business of farming
is strengthened for the small family-owned farms that are characteristic
of our region.
Collingswood Farmers' Market's participating farmers value the
opportunity to interact with the people who eat the food they grow.
Their presence in our community emphasizes the role New Jersey farming
plays in preservation of our landscapes, lifestyles, nutrition,
and our local food supply.
Come on down to the Market, meet the growers, and take advantage
of the wonderful harvests they have to offer!
